We call on the Border Police to release migrants from immigration detention due to the pandemic.
Due to the spreading coronavirus pandemic we requested Chiefs of Divisions of the Border Guard to immediately release migrants from immigration detention centers, especially the most vulnerable persons such as children, pregnant women, elderly, people who are sick or have immunological deficiencies.
Immigration detention centers do not allow for sufficient social distancing, and are therefore a threat to detention centers’ personnel and the migrants themselves.
European Committee for the Prevention of Torture, as well as, the Commissioner for Human Rights call to release asylum seekers and irregular migrants from immigration detention to the maximum extent possible.
