Refugees

uchodźstwo

Presently, more than 70 million people in the world were forced to flee their homes in search of protection from persecution or war. Every day another 30,000 people are forced to do this. Most of them seek protection in their countries, but unfortunately this is not possible for everyone. Once the state authorities become a threat, often the escape from the country is the only chance for security.

People who have fled their country for fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, nationality, religion, political opinion or membership of a particular social group are called refugees. There are almost 30 million of them in the world and another 3.5 million waiting to be recognized as refugees. Most of them, almost 80%, flee to a country neighboring their own.

Less than 20% of the asylum-seekers are admitted to the European Union. However, this percentage is even lower in Poland. On average, 4 to 12 thousand people apply for the refugee status in Poland annually. Only a small proportion of them actually receive protection.

Stowarzyszenie Interwencji Prawnej is engaged in activities aimed primarily at changing the legal system and implementation practice of asylum law.
We provide integration support in order to guarantee respect for the rights of refugees and their families, we represent foreigners in procedures for granting international protection, and we undertake actions aimed at ensuring a fair examination of such cases, especially in relation to particularly vulnerable groups. We are committed to ensuring that refugees receive proper access to medical and social support.
